Two men charged over death of boy electrocuted after climbing pub wall to fetch football

Two men have been charged with manslaughter after a seven-year-old boy was electrocuted at a pub as he tried to fetch his ball.

Harvey Tyrell died when he climbed over a garden wall to get a football on September 11 last year.

Police rushed to the King Harold pub in Station Road, Harold Wood, Romford, Essex, at around 5.20pm.

The young boy was found unresponsive and he was rushed to hospital where he died over an hour later.

Police have since charged 71-year-old David Bearman and 72-year-old Colin Naylor.

Bearman, of Hornchurch, was charged with manslaughter and abstracting electricity on Friday, 14 June.

Naylor, of Rayleigh, was charged with manslaughter on the same date and they will both appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Thursday, July 11.

A post-mortem was carried out at St Thomas' Hospital and the Metropolitan Police has now confirmed the cause of death was electrocution.

Following young Harvey's death, a Just Giving Page was set up in his memory which described him as a "little angel."

It also said he was "a beautiful, happy and healthy seven-year-old boy who loved his football just like any other boy his age."

The page raised more than £25,000 to cover funeral costs with any additional money being donated to children's charities by Harvey's parents Danielle and Lewis.
