Two men charged over death of boy, 8, killed in horror crash

Two men including one from Wirral have been charged over the death of an eight-year-old boy.

Safiullah Latif Asif was killed in a crash on Thursday, July 23, when he was trying to cross the road near his home on Ryecroft Street, in Ashton-Under-Lyne.

He was rushed to hospital with catastrophic injuries but sadly died in the following days.

Two men have now been charged with causing his death and are due to attend Tameside Magistrates court on Thursday, April 15.

Kevin Jones, 35, of Gorseyville Crescent, Bebington, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death while unlicensed and causing death while uninsured.

Thomas McGrath, 22, of Gorton Road in Stockport, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Family and friends paid tribute to the 'sweet' school boy, after he was hit and killed by the BMW.

One neighbour said: “He was a very nice boy. Calm but cute and sweet.

"They work in the shop so everyone knows them and everyone is in shock."

Family friend Javed Gill told the Manchester Evening News : "We feel so bad. There is so much sadness."
