TWO men have been charged after £375,000 worth of cannabis was found by officers in a van attempting to board a ferry to Northern Ireland from a village in Dumfries and Galloway.
Police said they were alerted to the drugs after officers carrying out checks on vehicles about to board a ferry from Cairnryan to Northern Ireland detected a smell of cannabis from a van at around 7.15am on Friday.
Police said after carrying out further enquiries, large quantities of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of around £375,000 were discovered inside the van.
Two men aged 43 and 18 have been arrested and charged in connection with the seizure of the cannabis and are due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Monday.
A spokesperson for the force said enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson: “Around 7.15am on Friday, 31 July, 2026, officers carrying out checks on vehicles about to board a ferry from Cairnryan to Northern Ireland detected a smell of cannabis from a van.
“Further enquiries were carried out and large quantities of herbal cannabis were discovered within, with an estimated street value of around £375,000.
“Two men, aged 43 and 18, have been arrested and charged in connection and are due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Monday, 3 August, 2026. Enquiries remain ongoing.
“This was a substantial recovery which highlights our continued commitment to disrupting drug activity and supply that aim to abuse our sea ports.
