Two men charged after attempted armed robbery of Dublin post office

Gardai have charged two men in relation to an armed attempted robbery of a post office attached to a local shop on Willie Nolan Road in Baldoyle on Friday.

Both men are aged in their 30's. One appeared in court yesterday while the second is due to appear tomorrow morning.

Dublin Live understands that two women were in the post office at the time of the robbery.

A witness at the scene said that two men stormed the post office armed with guns.

"Something like this has never happened before," the witness said.

Following the robbery, a garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí have arrested two men following an armed robbery in Baldoyle, Dublin 13 on Friday, 1st October 2021.

"Shortly after 5pm, Gardaí responded to reports of an armed robbery in progress at a convenience store in Baldoyle.

"The alarm was raised when intruders armed with a hand gun, pickaxe and hammer entered the store and attempted to force entry into a post office unit at the rear of the premises.

"Members of the Garda ASU (Armed Support Unit) along with local Garda units from Raheny and Clontarf responded to the incident. Garda ASU members entered the premises and disarmed and arrested two males aged in their 30s. (No shots were fired.)"

On Sunday, a garda spokesperson updated: "Gardaí have charged the two men (aged in their 30s) who were arrested on Friday, 1st October 2021 in relation to an armed robbery at a convenience store in Baldoyle, Dublin 13.

"One man appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice yesterday Saturday 2nd October 2021. The second man is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice (Court 1) tomorrow, Monday 4th October 2021 at 10.30am."
