KANCHANABURI: Two men allegedly involved in a gunfight at a riverside barbeque which claimed two lives and injured three boys were caught while police will issue an arrest warrant for another suspect.
Natthawut Tancharoen, 21, and Anan Jandee, 30, were taken for a crime-enactment on Tuesday following the shootout at the Ban Chuk Kraphrao sluice gate in Dan Makhamtei district on the night of June 9.
Visitors who were enjoying a barbeque at the sluice gate fled for their own safety.
The duo confessed to having shot to death Phatchara Phuangklang, 35, a close aide of a former politician in Kanchanaburi, during the exchange of gunfight involving two groups.
Khanchai Pradupsuk, a friend of the suspects, was also shot dead in the gunfight that injured three boys aged 13-15.
The shooting followed a dispute when a group led by Phatchara asked another group, led by Khanchai, to turn down their music. The groups exchanged words before the situation turned violent.
Natthawut and Anan told reporters that they neither knew Mr Phatchara nor had a conflict with him before. They fired shots at Phatchara when they saw their friend Khanchai sustain gunshot wounds.
Pol Col Amnart Iemjaidee, chief of Dan Makhamtei police station, said the two suspects would be taken to the Kanchanaburi provincial court tomorrow for detention.
Police were preparing to seek court approval for the arrest of another suspect, Tam Nakarn, 31, said Pol Col Amnart.
The Ban Chuk Kraphrao sluice gate is a popular picnic and barbeque location for local residents on weekends.
