Two men attacked on a busy Bold Street as police launch investigation

Two men were attacked in Liverpool city centre today, in the early hours of the morning.

Police are now investigating after a 23-year-old was assaulted when walking down Bold Street at around 12.15am, on Saturday, August 28.

The victim was close to the junction of Slater Street when he was punched in the face and fell to the floor. The suspect continued the attack while he was on the floor.

He was taken to hospital for his injuries to his head and face, which are not believed to be life threatening.

Another 32-year-old man, who tried to stop the attack, was also assaulted and suffered a laceration to his face.

An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries have been carried out in the local area.

Detective Inspector Ben Dyer said: "The investigation is in the very early stages and a number of lines of enquiry are being carried out.

"We know that the area around Bold Street/Slater Street would still have been busy at that time and I would ask anyone who witnessed the assault or the aftermath to contact us.

"Behaviour like this will not be tolerated and we will do everything within our powers to find the person or people responsible and bring them to justice.

"I would ask anyone with information to contact us as a matter of urgency."

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 21000598577.
