Two men have been arrested in connection with three burglaries after Gardai were led on a huge 26km chase which ended in north Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
Officers began searching for vehicles after they were alerted to several burglaries in the Maynooth and Celbridge areas of Kildare.
During one of the searches, a vehicle failed to stop and Gardai began to follow the car which led them on a 16-mile car chase before it eventually stopped on Cappagh Road.
The arrested pair, aged 25 and 35, were arrested a short time later and are currently being detained at Leixlip Garda Station.
A Garda investigation has been launched and they are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A spokesman told Dublin Live: "We have arrested two men in relation to three burglaries that occurred in the Leixlip District in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 9th August.
"Gardaí began conducting searches after receiving reports of burglaries in the Maynooth and Celbridge areas of Co. Kildare.
"During this search, a vehicle failed to stop for Gardaí when requested to do so. A managed containment operation ensued which concluded when the vehicle came to a stop on the Cappagh Road, Dublin 11."
He added: "The occupants of the car, two men (35 & 25) were arrested a short time later.
"Both men were brought to Leixlip Garda Station where they are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and investigations are ongoing."
