'I've never seen anything like it' - Met Police operation sees two arrested outside Sainsbury's store

Two men were arrested in a dramatic police operation outside a Bristol Sainsbury's.

Armed police reportedly descended on the Gloucester Road supermarket in Horfield at around 7.30pm on Monday (April 13) after a member of the public reported seeing a man being bundled into a car in London two days previously.

The man was found safe and sound but Metropolitan Police officers arrested two people on suspicion of kidnap, aggravated burglary and drugs supply offences in Bristol.

An eyewitness told Bristol Live : "Today my housemates and I passed what looked like a sting operation at the Sainsburys on Gloucester road.

"Never seen anything like it, two men being held down, dozens of what looked like undercover police in either green caps or black and white checkered caps.

"I'm not well versed on gun types but my housemate said that one of the undercover ones was holding a machine gun. I saw it too and it was a really big gun."

A spokesperson for the Met confirmed the two men are currently in custody.

They said: "Police received a report of kidnap in Southgate, after members of the public reported seeing a man bundled into a car at approximately 3pm on Saturday 11 April.

"The victim was found safe and well in North London.

"Officers from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command North arrested a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old man on suspicion of kidnap, aggravated burglary and drugs supply offences. Both are currently in currently in custody in a north London police station.

"Enquiries into the circumstances of this incident are ongoing. The two men were arrested in Bristol."
