Two men arrested on suspicion of murder at rugby club released with no further action

Two men arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following an "altercation" at a rugby club have been released without charge.

Kerry Morgan, 40, from New Tredegar, Caerphilly, died following the incident at New Tredegar Rugby Club on July 6 last year.

Mr Morgan had been at a wedding party at the rugby club on the day he died.

A subsequent inquest opening into the death heard police were called to the club where Mr Morgan were being "restrained by family members due to his aggressive behaviour".

Two men, aged 41 and 61 and from the Caerphilly area, were initially arrested but police have now confirmed no further action will be taken following advice from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

A file has been passed to the coroner and Mr Morgan's family has been told.

Detective Constable John Lewis, from Gwent Police told the inquest opening in Newport: "At 11.46pm Gwent Police received a call from a guest at the wedding being held at New Tredegar Rugby Club.

"Kerry Morgan was being restrained by family members due to his aggressive behaviour."

When officers arrived Mr Lewis said Mr Morgan was conscious but his breathing was "laboured". His condition rapidly deteriorated and he lost consciousness.

Despite the efforts of police who immediately performed CPR on Mr Morgan and of the emergency services he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight.

In a tribute released through police following his death Mr Morgan's family said: "He was the most wonderful, kind, and loving husband and father. He was the best dada in the world.

"He will be with us every day, always in our hearts and missed dearly."
