Two men arrested and loaded gun seized after Tallaght gardai foil suspected gangland hit

Two men have been arrested and a loaded gun has been seized seized after Tallaght gardai foiled a suspected gangland hit.

The men, aged 51 and 22, are currently in custody in two Dublin garda stations.

A vehicle with fake number plates was also seized during the arrest.

Assistant Garda Commissioner John O’Driscoll said that the pair were likely on their way to carry out an organised hit.

He said: "The Garda Siochana believes, through the actions of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, supported by other specialist units, we have again intervened in a threat to life situation that was likely to result in the death of at least one person.

“The members of the Garda Síochána involved are to be commended for bringing this operation to a successful conclusion by seizing a loaded firearm and arresting suspects”.

The men are being detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939, and follow-up searches are currently being carried out by gardai.
