Two men arrested after massive €2 million intelligence-led drug raid in Meath

Two men have been arrested after a massive €2 million drug seizure in Meath.

The pair, aged 59 and 61, were arrested and are being held in Ashbourne Garda Station after €1.94 million worth of cannabis was uncovered in an intelligence-led operation by gardai and Revenue officials yesterday.

97kg of herbal cannabis were nabbed by officers as part of investigations "targeting persons suspected to be involved in an organised crime group operating in the Meath area".

The drugs were found when a premises was searched under a warrant in the Rathfeigh area.

A garda spokesperson said: "A Joint Operation was conducted by personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), the Meath Divisional Drugs Unit and the Revenue Customs Service."

They added: "Investigations are ongoing."

A Revenue spokesperson said members of the public can contact them in confidence if they have information on drug smuggling.

They said: "This operation was part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.

"If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding drug smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295."
