Two men arrested after hurling 'metal items' at police car during 130mph chase

Two men have been arrested after hurling 'metal items' at a police car during a 130mph chase.

Officers say they pursued the Vauxhall Vectra along roads in Bolton and on to the M61 for more than 10 minutes.

As the car reached speeds of 130mph on the motorway, the occupants threw 'metal objects' at the police car, causing damage to the vehicle's windscreen.

Officers called for backup and the car was eventually brought to a halt in Glynne Street, Farnworth, after being 'boxed in'.

The driver of the vehicle was found to have been banned from the road three times.

He was arrested for dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

A passenger, who was wanted for failing to appear in court, was also arrested.

Both remain in custody, where they are being questioned by officers.

The car, which police say was being driven on false plates, has since been seized.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's traffic unit took to Twitter on Saturday morning to share what had happened.
