Two men arrested after high speed garda chase charged over Dublin burglaries

Two men arrested after a high speed garda chase appeared in court charged in relation to burglaries in south Dublin.

Darren Kelly, 23, with an address at Killucan, Co Westmeath, and Gerry Wall, 19, of Fortunestown Crescent, Tallaght, Co Dublin, are accused of two burglaries at two separate locations in Blackrock, Co Dublin, last Thursday night.

The pair are also charged with being in possession of stolen property, allegedly the car they was travelling in during the chase on the M50 and M1 motorways, which ended in their arrest in north County Louth.

They are also charged with being in possession of false car registration plates fixed to the car.

Kelly was dressed in blue jeans and a black bomber jacket when he appeared at Dun Laoghaire District Court, Dublin, on Monday.

Co-accused Wall wore a light grey tracksuit bottoms and a navy blue jumper.

The two men sat together in the middle of the court room.

The public was asked to leave the courtroom and family members of both men waited outside.

Detective Garda Dermot Haugh of Blackrock Garda Station gave evidence during the court appearance, which last almost 45 minutes.

The men were quizzed by gardai after their arrest and charged on Saturday night.

Neither made any response when the charges were put to them.

Both men applied for bail, but Judge Ann Watkins refused their applications.

They were remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill district court on Wednesday.
