Two men arrested after early hours incident involving weapon in Wallsend street

Police have arrested two men after an incident allegedly involving a weapon on a Wallsend street.

Witnesses claim multiple police vehicles, including vans, arrived at the flats on Vine Street in the early hours of Friday.

"There were some serious kickoffs," claimed a local.

"There were at least three or four police vans, as well as a couple of police cars."

Northumbria Police confirmed they were called at about 1.15am following a report that two men "had been trying to force entry" into an address on Vine Street.

"They were known to the victim and it was alleged one of the men was in possession of a weapon," added a force spokesperson.

"Officers were dispatched to the area and arrived in a matter of minutes before placing the men, aged 32 and 30, under arrest.

"Nobody was injured during the incident and the suspects remain in police custody at this time.”
