
Two men have been arrested and charged over the alleged assault of a police officer after a brawl broke out in Sydney following the anti-immigration protest.
At around 5:40pm, police were called to Bar Broadway in Chippendale after receiving reports that those who had been at the rally were reportedly yelling offensive remarks to passersby.
The Police immediately attempted to break up the brawl when 48-year-old Matthew Smith, who allegedly assaulted a male constable. When the constable attempted to arrest him, 29-year-old Sean Raic also allegedly assaulted the officer.
Police deployed capsicum spray before the men proceeded to make a run for it across the busy Broadway road. They were promptly chased down and arrested on a nearby footpath.

The officer sustained minor injuries, and the men were charged with affray, assault police officer in the execution of duty without actual bodily harm and hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of duty.
The men have been refused bail and are set to appear in the court’s bail division later today.
Around the country, thousands of people gathered to take part in the anti-immigration protest. Elsewhere in Sydney, one person was arrested during a pro-Palestine march in Hyde Park for breaching the peace.
In Melbourne, seven people were arrested after fights broke out between protesters and counter-protesters.
Breaking: the two protest groups have come face to face as the March for Australia protest made their way around police lines and towards the pro Palestine group.
