Two men arrested after attack near Leeds station leaves man in critical condition

Two men have been arrested after a man was attacked near Leeds train station.

The 41-year-old victim remains in hospital in a critical condition after he was assaulted in Bishopgate Street, at around 9am on Monday, August 12. Police say he suffered serious head injuries.

A 39-year-old man and a 38-year-old man, both from Leeds, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in the early hours of Tuesday, August 13.

British Transport Police, which is conducting the investigation, say the two men are being held in custody.

Detective inspector Mick Dawes said: “This is a fast-paced investigation and I am continuing to appeal for anyone with information to come forward and help us.

"In the moments leading up to the assault we believe there was a verbal altercation between the victim and a number of other men close to Hot Stuff takeaway on Swinegate.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed this or the assault to get in touch with us as soon as possible by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 201 of 12/08."
