Two men arrested after 'armed gang' fight

Two further suspects have been arrested after firearms units were deployed in response to reports of armed men in different parts of the same town.

Police swooped on Northwich Road and Kingshead Close in the Sutton Park and Castlefields areas of Runcorn on Monday evening following information over sightings of a group believed to be carrying weapons.

A helicopter was also seen hovering above Sutton Park.

Cheshire Constabulary said a 47-year-old man, whose arrest on suspicion of assault was revealed yesterday, has since been released on conditional bail.

On Wednesday morning a force spokeswoman said two men aged 25 and 20-years-old and both from Runcorn have been arrested on suspicion of attempted wounding with intent and released on conditional bail.

She said no details relating to any victims were available.

In a statement issued yesterday, the spokeswoman said: "At 5.50pm on Monday, September 27, police received multiple reports of disorder occurring outside addresses on Northwich Road and Kingshead Close in Runcorn.

"It involved a group of men who are believed to have been armed with weapons.

"Officers, including assistance from armed response and air support, attended to the scene to commence enquiries. "

The investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and anyone who has information is asked to contact Cheshire Constabulary on 101 quoting IML 1095020.
