Two men and woman charged and £60,000 seized in Encrochat raids

Three people were arrested and charged with drug conspiracy offences following raids as part of Operation Venetic.

More than six kilos of amphetamine, a kilo of cannabis and around £60,000 cash has been seized so far as part of an ongoing investigation into drug supply across England and Wales.

This investigation was part of Merseyside Police's response to Operation Venetic - the national investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices, commonly referred to as Encrochat.

28-year-old Darren Nelson of Whitfield Road Walton has been charged with conspiracy to supply heroin, cocaine, amphetamine and cannabis, and conspiracy to kidnap.

57-year-old Robert Wood of Stamfordham Drive, Garston has been charged with conspiracy to supply heroin, cocaine, amphetamine and cannabis.

60-year-old Maureen Gallagher of Stamfordham Drive, Garston has been charged with conspiracy to supply heroin, cocaine, amphetamine and cannabis.

Wood and Nelson have been remanded in custody to appear today (Tuesday 27 April) at Wirral Adult Remand Court. Gallagher has been released on conditional bail.

Operation Venetic involves European law enforcement agencies working with the National Crime Agency and supported across the UK by police forces and regional organised crime units.

Around 60,000 users of Encrochat have been identified worldwide, with about 10,000 of them in the UK – all involved in coordinating and planning the supply and distribution of drugs and weapons, money laundering and other criminal activity.
