Two men 'acting suspiciously' have been arrested in Salford on suspicion of terror offences

Two men have been arrested in Salford on suspicion of terror offences.

Police were called to Chapel Street, not far from Manchester city centre, on Wednesday afternoon.

It is understood the men were seen 'acting suspiciously' by a member of the public.

Officers attended and the men - whose ages have not yet been released - were arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

They are currently being questioned by police.

GMP said it was keeping an 'open mind' as to the nature of the incident, and stressed there was no evidence to suggest any threat to the public at this time.

A spokesman for GMP said in a statement: "Shortly after 2.30pm today, Wednesday, October 30, police were called to reports of two men acting suspiciously on Chapel Street in Salford.

"Officers swiftly attended and two men were arrested nearby. They remain in custody for questioning on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

"Police are keeping an open mind as to the nature of the incident and there is no evidence to suggest any threat to the public at this time.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
