Two men, 60s and 70s, tragically found dead after fire at home in Drimnagh, Dublin

Two men have tragically died in a house fire in Dublin.

The two victims, aged in their 60s and 70s, were discovered after the blaze in Drimnagh on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in the Slievebloom Park area shortly after 1.45pm and brought the fire under control.

The two men were found inside the property and were pronounced dead a short time later.

The bodies are to be removed to the Dublin City Mortuary where a post-mortem will take place.

Sinn Féin councillor, and local resident, Daithí Doolan said: "This is tragic news. Heartbreaking.

"The whole of Drimnagh is in shock. Our thoughts are with the victims family & friends.

"Gardaí are carrying out an investigation in to the cause of the fire. I hope for everyone's sake the investigation is brought to swift conclusion."

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí at Sundrive Road are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two men following a house fire in Drimnagh on Saturday, 23 May 2020.

At approximately 1.45pm Gardaí and Fire Services were alerted to a house fire in the Slievebloom Park area of Drimnagh.

"The fire was brought under control by Dublin Fire Brigade and the bodies of two males (thought to be aged in their late 60s and early 70s) were discovered inside the house. They were both pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

"Investigating Gardaí have preserved the scene as they work towards establishing the cause of the fire. The bodies of both men will be removed to the Dublin City Mortuary, Whitehall where post-mortem examinations will be conducted by the State Pathologist tomorrow.

"Results of the post-mortems and a technical examination of the scene will determine the course of the Garda investigation.

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact the incident room at Sundrive Road Garda Station. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sundrive Road Station on 01-666 6600 of the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."
