Two members of public dead after London Bridge terror attack

Two members of the public have died following stabbings on London Bridge, according to the BBC.

A number of people were injured during a terrorist attack on London Bridge on Friday afternoon. The suspect, who was wearing a hoax explosive device, was shot by police and died at the scene. The BBC is reporting that two members of the public injured during the attack have also died. It cites sources in Whitehall for the report.

Members of the public ran towards and detained the knifeman despite the fact he was armed with a knife, had stabbed several people and appeared to be wearing an explosive device.

In a statement outside Scotland Yard, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, thanked those members of the public who risked "their own safety this afternoon". He described their bravery as "breathtaking" and said they were "the best of us".

"I want to thank our brave emergency services who responded to today's horrific attack," the mayor told a press conference at Scotland Yard.

"Every day, they put their lives on the line for us, running towards danger in order to keep us safe. I'd also like to thank members of the public who risked their own safety this afternoon. They are the best of us."

AC Neil Basu, the head of UK counter-terrorism policing said: "Our heartfelt sympathies go out to everybody who has been involved in this and are anxiously waiting for information on their loved ones."
