Two thieves were forced to flee an attempted break-in in north Dublin after an elderly lady homeowner caught them in the act.
The woman was alone in the house during the burglary incident which took place on Friday night at 9pm in Drumcondra.
Two men had successfully got inside the woman's northside home but were turned on their heels when discovered by the woman.
She was left uninjured during the incident and thankfully no items were taken.
Neighbours rallied around the elderly lady in a local Facebook Neighbourhood Watch Group.
One resident said: "Thanks for the heads up. That’s very worrying, especially for the elderly in our community. I hope the lady concerned is ok."
A second added: "Poor lady that's awful. I feel terrible and so sorry for her.
A spokesman for Gardai confirmed that they are currently investigating the burglary incident
He said: "Gardaí are investigating a burglary incident at a house in the Joyce Road area of Drumcondra that occurred on 1/11/19 at approximately 9pm.
"It is reported that two men gained entry to the house and fled the scene when discovered.
"No injuries were sustained and no items were taken. Investigations are ongoing."
