Two lucky Dublin Lotto winners celebrate picking up a combined €750,000

The National Lottery's Abbey Street HQ was the scene of a double celebration today as two Dublin winners picked up almost €750,000 between them.

One lucky Dub picked up a whopping €500,000 while a southside family syndicate collected a cheque for €243,959.

The half a million prize was won by a Perrystown man, who claimed the Euromillions Plus top prize on Friday, March 29.

The delighted Dublin 12 man initially had no idea how much he had won.

He said: “I absolutely had no clue I was sitting on a ticket worth a half million euro.

"I scanned the ticket on my phone the following day and a message came up to congratulate me to tell me I had won a prize but it didn’t say how much.

"I just assumed it might have been €2,000 or so which I was obviously delighted with.

"I called up the National Lottery the following Monday and I got the shock of my life when I was told that I had won the €500,000. It was just an incredible feeling."

And he plans to do something very sensible with his life changing win.

"All I want from this win is a house to call my own," he said.

"To have a house, mortgage free is even better. I am going to spend a little bit of time shopping around but hopefully I’ll be moving into my dream home in the next few months.

"Whatever is left from my win, I’ll be sharing it with my family.

"They’ve always been there for me so it’s very important to share this with them."

Also collecting their prize today was a southside family syndicate who scooped €243,959 after matching five numbers plus the bonus ball in the Lotto draw on Wednesday, March 20.

The mother of the winning syndicate said it was "incredible" to win as a family.

She added: “I would always buy the tickets and leave them in the house for somebody else to check.

Lotto bosses reveal winning €1 million Plus 1 ticket was sold in Rush

"One of the mornings in the house, I heard was my daughter screaming in the other room and she came running in to me saying,‘mammy, mammy, we’ve won the Lotto’.

"I genuinely thought she was just winding me up. It took quite some time for her to convince me that we’d won but it definitely feels real seeing a cheque for almost a quarter of a million euros in my hands.”

And Ireland could have a new multi-millionaire this weekend, with Lotto officials saying this weekend's jackpot is estimated to hit €6 million.
