Two loan sharks face B430m bill for unpaid taxes

Two loan sharks in Chaiyaphum province face a massive 430 million baht tax bill after the Department of Special Investigation asked the Revenue Department to audit them.

Pol Lt Col Wichai Suwanprasert, DSI director for debtor assistance, said on Tuesday that tax evasion charges had already been laid against Wilaiporn Thai-ngam and Thanes Malethong, who had made informal loans at very high interest rates to people in Chaiyaphum and nearby provinces.

The DSI had asked the Revenue Department to check their taxation records, and it was found they had failed to pay 430 million baht in personal income tax and specific business tax since 2007, he said.

The DSI was also using tax measures against five loan sharks in Kalasin province and two others in Phetchabun province, Pol Lt Col Wichai said.
