Two lanes of M4 closed near Bridgend following four-vehicle crash

Two lanes of the M4 near Bridgend have been closed following a four-vehicle crash as the police are called to "numerous" collisions.

The incident happened at around 8.30pm westbound between J37 Pyle and J38 Margam on Monday evening (January 27).

According to South Wales Fire Service, the incident involved four vehicles.

A spokeswoman for the service said: "We were called at 8.41pm.

"Two carriageways have been closed. The police and ambulance are in attendance with ourselves."

A statement from South Wales Police said officers had been called to "numerous" collisions on that stretch of the M4 in both directions due to bad weather conditions.

There were heavy downpours in parts of Wales on Monday evening, particularly in and around Swansea. According to the Met Office, there was also a chance of ice and hail.

The speed limit between J37 and J40 Tanygroes Street has been reduced to 30mph.

The statement from the police reads: "South Wales Police are in attendance at numerous road traffic collisions that have occurred on the M4 in both directions between 37 Pyle and 38 Margam due to the weather conditions.

"Please take care whilst driving in this area tonight."
