Jackknifed lorry closes two lanes on M6 near Wigan

Two lanes are currently closed on the M6 northbound near Wigan due to a jackknifed lorry.

There are currently long delays due to the lane closures between junction 26 for Orrell and junction 27 for Standish.

Highways England tweeted about the incident at 10.20am, warning motorists heading up north of long delays.

The tweet said: " #M6 northbound between junction 26 for Orrell and junction 26 for Standish.

"Two lanes have been closed due to a jackknifed lorry. Congestion building on the approach."

They also tweeted a photo of the lorry, which was left straddling both lane one and the hard-shoulder.

A Highways car is seen parked up behind the lorry in the traffic camera picture.

The area around the incident has been cordoned off with traffic cones.

It is unclear at this stage when the road will reopen.
