Two killed in fatal collision after car crashes into lorry on road between Navan and Slane

Two people have tragically died in a fatal road collision this afternoon.

A man and a woman both aged in their early 20s were killed in the crash which involved a car and a lorry.

The crash occurred on the N51 Navan/Slane Road between the two towns at around 1.10pm.

The male driver, 23, and female passenger, 21,of the car, were killed in the collision.

Both their bodies have been removed from the scene and taken to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan where a post-mortem will take place in the morning.

The 31-year-old male driver of the lorry was uninjured and was arrested at the scene and taken to Navan Garda Station where he was later released.

Gardai say investigations are ongoing.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are at scene and the road remains closed and traffic diversions are in place.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardai in Navan are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this collision to come forward.

"Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the N51 between Navan and Slane from 12.30p.m to 1.15p.m to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Navan Garda Station on 046 9079930, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
