Two killed in road accident in Mangaluru

MANGALURU: Two persons riding a two-wheeler died in an accident reported at Nanthoor Circle of Mangaluru on Saturday.

City police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said the accident took place after a tipper truck rammed the two-wheeler around 12.15pm. The deceased are Samuel Jesudas, 66, a resident of Sulthan Bathery and his relative Bhoomika, 17.

It is alleged that tipper truck driver Sathish Gowda Patil drove the vehicle in a negligent manner and rammed the scooter. The truck and scooter were bound towards Nanthoor Circle from Pumpwell. Due to the impact of the collision, the two-wheeler riders fell on the road and the truck ran over them. Though they were rushed to the district Wenlock Hospital, doctors declared them dead.

The traffic was thrown out of gear for sometime at the junction and in the two highways that it connects. The situation was eased with the deployment of more cops.

A case has been registered at the Mangaluru East (traffic) police station.
