Two men have died in the US after their convertible sports car travelled so fast it went airborne into the second floor of a building.

The red Porsche Boxster sped out of control just after 6.30am on Sunday, police in New Jersey said.

It hit a raised part of the road and took to the air, crashing into a commercial building in Toms River.

Braden DeMartin, 22, and Daniel Foley, 23, were killed in the accident. They were found dead by emergency services who rushed to the scene.

The building was unoccupied at the time of the crash, police confirmed.

Tributes have poured in for the two victims on social media, with the township’s social media page posting that many messages of condolences had been shared.

“We are all shocked and saddened by this great loss,” the Toms River Facebook page commented. “R.I.P. Braden and Dan.”

Sergeant Vincent Padalino said the site of the crash, which is across the street from a primary school, currently houses four businesses including a counselling service and a real estate company.

He said the building had recently been deemed unsafe by a building inspector.
