Two people have been killed and nine others injured in a shooting at Brown University, the university posted.
On Sunday, Providence police said a person of interest was in custody. The shooting was reported at the Barus and Holley engineering building on Brown's Providence, R.I., campus.
- University officials said students were scheduled to take final exams in the building during the time of the shooting, The New York Times reported.
The nine injured students were in critical condition at the hospital, the Providence Journal reported.
The latest: Provost Francis J. Doyle III announced Sunday morning that the semester's remaining undergraduate, graduate, and medical exams and projects will not take place.
- "Students are free to leave if they are able," Doyle wrote, noting that learning is "significantly hindered" by the tragedy.
President Trump addressed the shooting in a speech from the White House.
- "So to the nine injured get well fast, and to the families of those two that are no longer with us, I pay my deepest regards and respects from the United States of America."
