Two militants, including a ‘commander’ of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and a foreign associate, were killed in an encounter in Rajpora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.
“The militant commander of the JeM, Yasir Parray, who was an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) expert, was killed along with a foreign militant, Furqan, in an encounter,” Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said.
He termed the killings as a “a big success to forces”. “Both were involved in several terror crime cases,” the IGP said.
The two militants were encircled by the security forces during a search operation launched in Rajpora in a pre-dawn operation.
An Army spokesman said two AK-47s, two pistols and other warlike stores were recovered from the encounter site.
Furqan alias Ali Bhai was a ruthless category “A+” Pakistani terrorist who was known to be active with JeM since 26 June 2020, the Army said.
“He was sent into Kashmir to radicalise youth and incite them to take up arms to commit atrocities on innocent locals and prominent businessmen. The second terrorist, Yasir Ahmad Parray, a resident of Qasbayar, Pulwama, was a notorious category ‘B’ terrorist who had joined JeM on June 20, 2019,” the spokesman said.
The Army said Parrey was “associated with various Pakistani terrorists and acted as a guide for bringing them into Kashmir."
