Two injured in high speed police chase in Glasgow's east end

Two people were hospitalised earlier this afternoon following a high speed police chase in the east end of the city.

We reported earlier how a stretch of Dalmarnock Road was closed to traffic following a crash on Dalmarnock Road, leading to congestion on surrounding streets as a result of diverting traffic.

And now Police have confirmed that the crash was the result of a short pursuit after having responded to reports of suspicious activity involving a vehicle in Glasgow city centre.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 1.55pm on Friday, January 10, police were responding to reports of suspicious activity in the city centre of Glasgow.

The crash occurred on Dalmarnock Road between the Clyde Gateway and Springfield Road this afternoon (Google Maps)

"A short time later, police traced a blue van believed to be connected in the east of the city. The van failed to stop and a short pursuit occurred.

"The van then crashed into three vehicles on the Clyde Gateway. Emergency services attended and a number of people were checked over for minor injuries. Two people went to hospital of their own accord as a precaution. The road is due to be cleared.

"Three male teenagers have been arrested in connection.

"Enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing."
