Two injured and two roads blocked off as Mercedes and Kia crash

Two roads were blocked off as emergency services were called to a crash which left two people injured this morning.

Police and an ambulance were called to the smash at the junction of Speke Road and Horrocks Avenue in Garston around 8.15am.

Images from the scene show a mangled Mercedes with its front caved in and a Kia with a damaged side.

Merseyside Police said the woman driving the Kia "complained of abdominal pains" and a man also suffered an arm injury but the injuries are not believed to be serious.

Buses had to be diverted as the road junction was blocked both ways for around half an hour.

Arriva North West had warned passengers: "Due to a road traffic collision on Speke Rd, near Horrocks Ave, Garston. The 82 & 86A services are being diverted, via Banks Rd & Church Rd, omitting parts of Garston Village."

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We were called to the junction of Speke Road and Horrocks Avenue just after 8.15am to reports of a road traffic colllision involving a Kia Sportage and Mercedes.

"A man suffered an arm injury and the driver of the Mercedes complained of abdominal pain. An ambulance was called but it's not believed the injuries are serious."
