Two injured after lightning strike at Ready Steady Go Day Care Nursery in Worle

Two people were injured after a nursery was struck by lightning during a  huge storm.

Fire crews were called to the Ready Steady Go Day Care Nursery in Worle shortly after 6pm yesterday evening (June 7).

One person was hospitalised following the lightning strike, which also left the roof of the building severely damaged.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue confirmed two people were injured during the incident.

"At 6.09pm, three fire engines, along with a turntable ladder, attended reports of a building being struck by lightning," he said.

"The strike caused severe structural damage to the building.

"One person was taken to hospital by ambulance and another was treated at the scene."

Streets across Worle and Weston-super-Mare were left underwater after torrential downpours brought by yesterday's storm.

South Western Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
