Two injured after car mounts pavement and ploughs into wall in Glasgow's east end

A car has mounted the pavement and hit a wall after a crash in Glasgow's east end.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Cumbernauld Road near Carntyne on Sunday afternoon following reports of the incident.

Scottish Fire and Rescue, ambulance and Police Scotland were on the scene after the incident unfolded.

Cumbernauld Road was closed to all southbound traffic between Longford Street and Lomax Street due to the incident. It has now fully reopened to traffic.

Pictures from the scene show one of the cars involved having mounted the pavement and hitting a wall.

The other vehicle has been badly damaged and is blocking a lane of the road.

A traffic bulletin issued at 5.45pm on Sunday confirmed traffic was diverted in the aftermath of the crash.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We received a report of a crash involving two cars on Cumbernauld Road, Glasgow, around 5.15pm on Sunday, 11 April.

“The two drivers have been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary Hospital. The road reopened around 6pm."
