Two drivers are in hospital, one in a critical condition, after a horror crash on the state's roads Wednesday afternoon.
Police and emergency services were called to The Bucketts Way around 2.40pm after reports of a serious head-on collision east of Gloucester.
One of the drivers was flown by Westpac Rescue Helicopter to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, suffering head and pelvic injuries. The second driver - the sole occupant of the other vehicle - was treated at the scene for minor injuries before they were also taken to hospital.
Officers attached to Manning-Great Lakes Police District have established a crime scene and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Bucketts Way will be opened with a contra flow to be put in place, a spokesperson for NSW Police said. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area as extensive delays are expected.
