Two in hospital after stabbing in Manchester city centre

Two men have been taken to hospital after a stabbing in Manchester city centre.

Police were called to Shudehill early on Sunday morning to reports a man had been "stabbed in the arm".

The road has been shut off throughout the morning, with police warning those in the city centre to "avoid the area".

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 6.15am on Sunday 8 March 2020, police were called to Shudehill in Manchester city centre, to reports that a man had been stabbed in the arm.

"Officers attended and two men were taken to hospital with minor stab wounds.

"A cordon is in place on both Withy Grove and Danzic Street and is likely to be in place for some time as investigation work is carried out.

"We would advise members of the public who are travelling through the city centre to avoid the area where possible.

"No arrests have currently been made and officers are exploring forensic and CCTV opportunities.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

In a statement, TfGM said: "Due to a police incident Shudehill/Withy Grove is closed in both directions between Thomas Street and Dantzic Street.

"Buses out of Shudehill bus station to turn left towards Inner Ring Road."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 744 of 08/03/20. Reports can be made to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
