Two in hospital after car crashes into tree with road shut

Two people have been taken to hospital after a serious crash in Oldham.

The smash occurred on Oldham Road in the Saddleworth village of Grasscroft earlier this evening.

A black coloured saloon car collided with a tree, police said.

There was a large emergency service response with fire crews attending along with paramedics and police.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the driver and a passenger were taken to hospital by ambulance.

No further details have been released and their condition is not yet known.

The road remains closed and will remain so 'until further notice' as officers deal with the aftermath and carry out enquiries with drivers are being asked to avoid the area for the time being.

In a post on their Facebook page GMP Saddleworth and Lees said: "Officers are currently at the scene of a serious road collision on Oldham Road at Grasscroft.

"Oldham Road is closed between Clough Park Avenue and the Jct with Brookway.

"The road will be closed until further notice until the serious collision investigation unit have finished their work at the scene.

"The driver and passenger were conveyed via ambulance to the Royal Oldham Hospital and investigations are continuing at the scene."

Any witnesses or anyone who may have information about the collision is askied to call police on 101 quoting log 2404 of 30/08/20
