Two in hospital after being rescued from two-car smash as woman arrested for drink driving

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after two people were injured in a smash in Oldham.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Middleton Road in Chadderton at 1.20pm.

Firefighters rescued two patients following the smash between a Nissan Micra and a Toyota Yaris.

They were taken to Royal Oldham Hospital. Police confirmed a woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

A spokesman for GMP said: "We were called around 12.20pm. The crash was between a Micra and a Yaris.

"We’ve arrested a woman on suspicion of drink driving."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 12.33pm, we sent two fire engines to the scene from Blackley and Chadderton.

"We have also sent a technical response unit from Ashton. Two casualties were removed from a vehicle by hand. They were taken to Royal Oldham Hospital."

It is unclear at this stage how badly injured the patients are.
