Two images show drastic change to Leeds skyline in just two years

Giant new developments are springing up all over Leeds at an incredible rate and pictures taken from the same spot two years apart shows just how much our city is changing.

The photographs below were snapped by a member of Leeds Civic Trust on a bridge over the A64 York Road looking towards Leeds city centre from the east of the city.

It doesn't take long to spot the major differences between the two pictures.

The one at the top is from 2017 and while there are plenty of high-rise buildings on view, the second picture at the bottom reveals the influx of new developments in Leeds.

The pictures were taken two years apart in 2017 and 2019 (Leeds Civic Trust)

Slap bang in the middle of the 2019 photo is the brand new charcoal grey Hampton by Hilton hotel on Gower Street, which is now open.

Just to the right of the hotel is a huge tower with yellow cranes on either side of it. . Altus House will be 114 metres tall and will provide accommodation for more than 750 students.

Without doubt the most obvious difference is the bright gold building which rises up above York Road.

St Albans is yet another student tower block - but it's fair to say it divides opinion.

Some people have labelled it 'Trump Tower' in reference to its likeness to the gold-plated building in New York owned by the president of the United States.

The trio of new developments aren't the only ones in Leeds of course. There are dozens of huge new buildings in Leeds that will soon dominate the skyline.
