Two hurt in motorbike and car crash on major road

A crash between a motorbike and car has left two people injured and closed a busy road in Southport.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of Marine Drive in Southport at 4.45pm on Tuesday to reports of a crash between a motorbike and a car.

Merseyside Police said two people were believed to have been injured after the crash, which happened near Southport sailing club, but the extent of injuries are not confirmed.

Along with police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue, the North West Ambulance Service and North West Air Ambulance responded to the incident.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: "Crews have been called to a road traffic collision on Marine Drive involving a motorcycle and a car this evening.

"Crews were alerted at 4.54pm and on scene at 4.58pm. Two fire engines and the search and rescue team are in attendance.

"Crews provided first aid at the scene, no persons are trapped in any vehicle.

"North West Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance are now in attendance and are assessing two casualties."

Road closures were in place while emergency services dealt with the incident and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
