Carlton have lost Mimi Hill and Jas Duursma to injuries as they continued their impressive start with a fiercely fought 16-point AFLW win over the Western Bulldogs.

Hill limped off in the last quarter with a knee injury and Duursma hurt her collarbone in the second term as the Blues won 7.7 (49) to 4.9 (33) on Saturday at Ikon Park.

Dayna Finn was outstanding on a wing for Carlton, racking up a game-high 30 possessions, 15 of them contested, and a team-high five clearances.

Sophie McKay kicked two first-half goals to help spark the Blues and then Breann Harrington looked like kicking a candidate for goal of the year in the third quarter.

It took an outstanding smother from Bulldogs defender Isabelle Grant on the last line of defence to deny Harrington's long run into attack.

But Harrington ended the quarter with a strong mark and goal, giving Carlton a 15-point lead that proved decisive.

While Bulldogs captain Deanna Berry kicked a goal in the first minute of the last term to keep it interesting, the Blues went end-to-end minutes later.

Irish recruit Erone Fitzpatrick then capped her excellent game by snapping a goal and Keeley Sherar, another of their best players, added another to seal the win.

The Bulldogs brought the heat and lost no friends, but they botched too many scoring chances and the Blues overall were more efficient.

Former Bulldogs captain Ellie Blackburn was mobbed by teammates when she kicked a goal in her milestone 75th game, while Alice Edmonds also kicked a goal in her 50th.

The Dogs led by eight points near the end of the second term and looked threatening, but Carlton closed out the half with goals to McKay and Maddy Guerin.

That gave them a four-point lead at the main break and they were never headed.

Duursma was helped from the field after a brutal, but legal, bump from Heidi Woodley on her right shoulder.

Hill, Carlton's 2022 best and fairest, limped off with a sore left knee after colliding with teammate Darcy Vescio.

Isabelle Pritchard had five clearances for the Bulldogs and kicked a goal in the last quarter, while Jess Fitzgerald laid a game-high nine tackles and had 15 possessions.
