Two Hunter police officers suspended amid tax-related charges

Two Hunter region police officers have been stood down after they were charged with alleged tax fraud.

A police spokesperson has confirmed the officers - one attached to the NSW Police Northern Region and the other part of the Traffic and Highway Patrol command - will face court next month after they were charged last week with what was described as "Commonwealth offences".

The 38-year-old woman and 46-year-old man have been suspended with pay.

They were each served a Court Attendance Notice on August 5 for three counts of dishonestly causing a risk of loss.

"The charges related to an investigation by the Australian Taxation Office," the police spokesperson said.

The pair will face Maitland Local Court on October 29.
