A development that could lead to more than 500 flats being built in south Leeds is set to go before planning chiefs next week.
Early plans to build two apartment blocks at Springwell Road, Holbeck, will go before the Leeds City Council’s city plans panel next week.
The main proposal, a 24-storey building, would include 288 apartments, commercial space, car parking and a communal terrace. This would be in addition to an adjacent, already approved block of 224 flats.
A report into the plans, put together by council officers, claims the site is currently occupied by two “mid to late 20th century” two-storey buildings “which appear to be in partial/limited employment use”.
The report adds such a development could have a beneficial impact on the wider area.
It states: “The proposal could have notable design and regeneration benefits to the local area.
"The scheme would give rise to potential additional sustainable transportation improvements in the area as identified through consultation such as sustainable travel fund measures, enhancement of nearby cycle/pedestrian links and contribution to establishment of car club facilities outside of the site.”
Early plans for the site will be heard at Leeds City Council’s city plans panel on Thursday, November 21.
As this is only at pre-application stage, no final decision will be made on whether to allow the proposals.
A full application would then be expected to be submitted in the coming months.
