Two huge Irish Christmas festivals that have already announced they will go ahead in 2020

Christmas is less than 100 days away and with little else to do in these Covid times, people are looking forward to it already.

The entire world has changed in just six months and Christmas will be no different but some of the things you love will still happen.

Christmas markets and festivals are one of the highlights of the season and generally tend to start in October and November.

While there will be big changes, some have already announced their plans to plough on - but not quite as normal.

The Galway Christmas Market and Winterval in Waterford City have already both said they will be going ahead.

Here's what we know so far about them;

Galway Christmas market 2020

The woman behind the event, Maria Moynihan Lee, tild the Connacht Tribune recently: "What we’re doing is very detailed planning and working with the Council on making the market happen.

"It will be the same market in the way people know it to be and it will meet all expectations, but there will be a huge level of control.”

"What we are focused on is not diminishing the offering but, rather, altering the way you access that offering. It’s about the quality of the experience not being diminished, while also ensuring the health and safety of people."

At the moment no dates have been revealed but it is all in the pipeline.

Winterval Waterford

The hugely popular Waterford festival said on Facebook earlier this month: "Once upon time, there was a difficult year,That really needed to end up with some Christmas cheer.

"And though people worried, we said...Don't fear.

"A re-imagined Winterval programme is currently in hand,Full details will be available soon, so you can make a plan.

"While times may be different and some favourites may not arrive,Waterford in 2020, will keep Christmas magic alive."
