Two huge Albert Dock festivals have been cancelled to make way for a new events programme

Two huge Royal Liverpool Albert Dock festivals will no longer go ahead, it has been announced.

The Folk on the Dock official Twitter page confirmed that popular festivals Folk on the Dock and Pirates on the Dock would not be returning for summer 2019.

Folk on the Dock was set to return to the waterfront this weekend (July 12 - 14) but the tweet confirmed that this is no longer the case.

The statement, which has since been deleted, said: “Fit the Bill confirms that Royal Albert Dock Liverpool has regrettably sought to terminate their involvement in the festivals Folk On The Dock & Pirates On The Dock for 2019 and subsequent years.

“This is extremely disappointing.

“We are working closely to support everyone involved”.

The Royal Albert Dock recently released a brand new events programme for summer 2019, which includes a floating cinema, football coaching and a new food and drink festival.

An Albert Dock spokesperson said: “Pirate Festival and Folk on the Dock has been cancelled from the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool events programme.

“Albert Dock board decided to change focus with a re-shaped, re-booted events programme which focuses on fresh, more relevant, all year round events.

“One that reflects the evolving Dock retail and leisure offer, notably an influx of independent food and drink operators, including Maray that opens today, Rosa’s Thai Cafe and the highly anticipated Barrie Brothers restaurant, famed for The Marram Grass on Anglesey, due to open later this year.

“The refreshed 2019 event programme starts with Summer on the Dock, a five-week programme of Dockside events including Liverpool’s first floating cinema curated by Independent Liverpool, a fully curated free wellness programme including sessions in netball, yoga and football coaching by Liverpool Football Club Foundation and a brand new Food & Drink Festival.”
