Two-hour fight as fire destroys vacant Muswellbrook house

SMOKE SIGNAL: The Muswellbrook property could not be saved, firefighters said. Picture: Fire and Rescue NSW

A MUSWELLBROOK house has been totally destroyed after a fire that broke out in the early hours of Wednesday.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to Adams Street about 4am, arriving on scene to battle flames and thick smoke.

They began fighting the blaze in the vacant single level brick house, with flames coming from its side and rear as they worked to contain it.

Despite more than two hours of effort, firefighters were unable to save the property.

Fire and Rescue NSW said no-one was injured but police and paramedics attended as a precaution.

Separately, the Westpac helicopter was sent to Brightwaters on Friday morning after a woman in her 80s suffered severe burns in a kitchen fire.

A Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service spokesman said the 83-year-old was burned on her face and hands.

Paramedics treated her on the scene before the chopper's critical care medical team flew with her to the John Hunter Hospital.

The woman was in a stable condition and expected to undergo further treatment.
