Two hospitalised after M77 fire and four-car crash

Two people are in hospital after a four-car horror crash on one of Scotland's busiest motorways.

One vehicle burst into flames following the smash on the M77 northbound carriageway near junction three.

Police are fire crews raced to the scene just after 5pm on Monday.

Shocking dash cam footage shows huge tailbacks on the stretch of motorway back to junction one.

Emergency services cordoned off the scene to clear the crash.

Two motorists were rushed to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

There were both treated for minor injuries.

Fire officers tackled the blaze that ripped through one of the cars involved which was safely put out.

The carriageway was blocked off sparking rush-hour chaos.

Drivers were brought to a standstill with congestion tailing back to junction one.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Record: "Police were called at around 5.05pm following the report of a four vehicle road crash on the M77 Northbound at junction 3.

"Two people suffered minor injuries.

"They were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment."

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) chiefs also confirmed their attendance.

A spokeswoman told the Record: "We were alerted to a road traffic collision on the M77 near junction three at 5.08am.

"Officers were initially alerted to a three-car crash.

"On arrival they found four cars to be involved.

"Nobody was trapped in their vehicles or seriously injured.

"One car was on fire.

"The fire was put out by officers."
