Two horses die at Aintree Grand National 2019 Ladies Day

Two horses have died during races on Ladies Day of the Grand National 2019 festival.

Forest des Aigles and Crucial Role both died after falling in difference races on Friday.

Crucial Role, ridden by Harry Skelton, was injured during the Betway Mildmay Novices and had to be euthanised.

Later on Forest des Aigles, a French eight-year-old with Derek Fox on board, fell in the Randox Health Topham Handicap Chase.

ITV Racing confirmed both horses have died.

They wrote in a Tweet: "We've been passed the desperately sad news we were fearing.

"After falls in the Betway Mildmay Novices' & in the Randox Health Topham Handicap Chase, Crucial Role and Forest des Aigles have both had to be put down.

"Our deepest condolences to connections of both horses."

Last year Lilbitluso was put down after a fall in the Randox Health Foxhunters Chase while no horses died in the 2018 Grand National steeplechase.

There has not been an equine fatality in racing's most famous event since 2012, when both Synchronised and According To Pete were euthanised.

Since then changes have been made to improve the welfare of horses around Aintree, including adapting and rebuilding fences, facilities and stables.
