Police have launched a murder probe following the death of a baby girl in south-east London.

A man, 24, and a woman, 21, have been arrested on suspicion of murdering the eight-week-old.

The infant was found unresponsive at a residential address in the SE16 postcode area on April 26.

Paramedics attended but the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem scan showed the child had suffered a number of broken bones.

On May 3, the man and woman were held on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

But following further testing, Scotland Yard said it arrested the pair on suspicion of murder on Thursday.

They have both been released on bail to a date in mid-October.

A Met spokesman said the force would not comment on the identity of those held, or whether they were known to the victim.
